My Weird But Awesome Brain

Well here we are, probably the last post in sixth grade

I drew my brain….Not the real one…Just one that shows what I think about literally 24/7. In my brain, everything is in black and white, except for one little rainbow. I have everything that I love in it. Like music, Dan and Phil (only some will know) piano, my squad, youtube, travel, Harry Potter, bands, and even my internet friends! Also, in the top right hand corner of my brain, in all black with red, is my “soul” I put it all black because people say gingers have no soul.

Lucky me, I’m a ginger.

I also put my father, drawing, and surprisingly math. In the background, I put a headphone set on my brain, with rainbow music notes around them with all my favorite lyrics.

As you can see music is very important to me.

Also, when I was drawing the deathly hollows symbol for Harry Potter, it was so small it looked like I was in theIlluminatii

Surprise surprise..I’m not.

Well, because of this, I actually had to label it with purple marker, “Harry Potter”.

On one section I have “yo?” I put this becuase I say that literally all the time through text to one of my super close friends, Sophia. Also, in another section I have all question marks because sometimes I’m literally like “w h a t ?”

I think my brain actually represents me more than I thought it would.

But for now, goodbye and see you in 7th!

Science

Photo from Photos for Class

Recently in Language arts, we had to write a blog post (this post) about what we did, or what we are doing in our science class. Unlike most, I wrote about our first unit. Enjoy!

For our first unit in science, we studied Electricity. The project for this was to make an electric house. I was partnered with Nate Zaytezva, and Allison Prebble, some of my classmates. Our house was sort of a “meme” house. That was the theme of the house. We took a box and folded it to look like a square house. We took motors, lights, and more, to make different light fixtures, fans, and different electrical stuff inside the house. Inside for the actual decor, we used pictures, and doll furniture to make the inside personalized, but that was not the point of this project. The point was to learn how electricity works. There are many different ways we as humans use electricity every day. Microwaves, ovens, lights, fans, iPads, computers: these are just some examples of things that use electricity. And some cars even run on electricity, rather than gasoline. Some other uses of electricity are for air conditioning, music, power lines, and more. What I really loved about this unit was that we got to do what we wanted with our houses, but we still followed a curriculum, like we had to have two of this one thing, three of this one thing, decor, and all that stuff. But most importantly, before we even started making the electric house, we made a plan for our circuits, lights, and motors. What I took away from doing this is how to cut a wire safely, yea, bland right, but there is a very easy to mess up way to do it. Thanks for reading!

My Monthly Goal

For the past couple of months in school, we have been setting monthly goals. Some are sports and some are just making your bed each day. The catch is we record it and we have a new goal each month. My goal for this month is to get up early each day. In my opinion, it’s been going great. I chose this goal so I can go to school early because it helps me go through the day happy, and it makes me feel like I can accomplish things. My past goals were a bit choppy though, as I didn’t choose a goal quite right for me. I think the goals are great ways to challenge oneself to accomplish things.

Video Production Club

At my school, we have clubs. Clubs are opportunities for kids to see other people, have fun, and relax their brains from a busy day at school. We have them our last period on day 6’s. I’m in the Video Production Club, held by two students in my grade, London and Cate. We play acting games, and we are also working on a “movie” kind of like Zootopia, a Disney film from 2016. Normal animals meet fantasy animals, and they have to learn to like each other. Some characters are “mean” I say that in quotes because we aren’t really mean. Some characters are nice. I’m a fantasy animal, a winged narwhal, I’m sorta cynical and I don’t like interactions with people. There are so many fun components with this club. We get to have fun, while still doing important stuff. I like it because we all have a voice and get to say what we want to. It’s been super fun so far and I think our play/movie will turn out great.

I Was A Grown Up For A day…

(Photo From Flickr Cc)

I wake up in my apartment in London, on my phone, there is a text message saying ‘congratulations! You are gonna be an adult for a day, enjoy it while it lasts I shut off my phone realizing I’m 5’11. I look around the apartment I find myself in. I go to the living room, decorated to my style, along with the living room I go to the dining room, the chairs are rainbow colored, the glass door that goes to the kitchen is glossy and clean, I look at another door, I peek in. ‘Huh, I must have a roommate’. I explore the “attic” it’s more of an office, I see a scoreboard saying ‘Sarah vs…!’ the other name is faded. I go back downstairs and go to my easel, I do my art for the day and put them up for sale on eBay. I get out of my pajamas and get my black jeans and black t-shirt on. I take the keys I found on the kitchen counter, and head out the door to look for my car. I found it! It’s black, the inside is quite messy, but knowing me that is bound to happen. I get in and play some music, ‘Twenty One Crybabies, yes!’ I say as I head out of the garage and explore the city. I go to shops, a cafe, and a pet store to look at hamsters! But it looks like my apartment won’t let us have one. I buy some house plants for our apartment. I drive home, still listening to Twenty One Crybabies.

I make dinner and watch Netflix. I have not seen my roommate…where are my house plants? I swear they were right there! ARGG, dang roommate. After hours of Netflix, I check eBay, YAY! I got a buyer, I message them saying I will send the art right away. I get back into my anime themed pajamas and I stroke the cat I find on my black sheeted bed. The cat is black also..wow. I look at the tag and it says ‘Hello, I’m Jet, return me to 1928 Yorkshire road, London, England’ Oh, that’s..my address..it’s my cat! I fall asleep right away. The next morning I get woken up by a brown haired girl, she said I was her roommate? Huh? She looks like a girl I used to know..in 6th grade, her name started with an R, I know that for sure….but who is she?

I wake up again…realizing it was only just a dream.

Wisdom Tale Comic

In our Language Arts class we read stories from all around the world called Wisdom Tales. After we read all the stories, we got to choose one and make a comic retelling it. I chose ‘The Wooden Bowl’ from Germany. To read it, click here ——> for-blog. I had a lot of fun drawing and writing the comic. We made the comic by using a drawing app on our iPads and put them into Comic Life to put the comics together.

The wooden bowl is about an old man who goes to live with his son and his son’s wife. He does work every day for months. His son’s wife became pregnant and the old man couldn’t hold the baby because of his old trembling hands. Growing elderly by the day, the old man kept on working. One night at diner, the old man was drooling and dropping his spoon in his soup. The man dropped the bowl on the floor making a mess. The wife sat the old man at his own table and gave him a wooden bowl he wouldn’t break. The old man died soon after. The old man’s son made wooden bowls for the whole family in memory of his father.

This story is really powerful and literally made me cry, the moral is that you should always return the kindness, like the son did to his father. Thanks for reading!

Hiding Places…

img_0197

I notice hiding places, the literal bane of my existence. Hiding places are where I go when I feel alone, when I feel angry, anxious, and where I go to hide. I like to ball up in a small covered place, to think, hide. I may sound so gloomy right now, but I swear I’m not. I just want to hide from the reality of all the bad in the world and the sadness. I’m not trying to sound or act like I have a sad life. Hiding makes me feel relaxed. When I’m outside, or even inside, I can spot out a hiding place, go to it, check its surroundings, and just, hide. I like to write and draw all my worries, ball them up, and throw them in the trash, I know I sound crazy, but it helps me to not think about all the bad in life. I know, I know, I sound dismal , but I’m not, I’m just saying this because it’s something in my life.

NC Diaper Bank Community Service

NC Diaper Bank

On Wednesday the 19th, I went on a community service trip with my advisory. We went to the NC Diaper Bank. We packaged diapers and baby wipes. We saw where they stored all the unpackaged diapers and how to package them. There were three jobs at each table. There was a packager, a counter and a runner. The packager packaged the diapers the counters counted, and the runner put the packaged diapers on the shelves. It was so fun because people would stand at the shelves and the packager would  throw the runner the diaper so they could put it on the shelf. It was so much fun, I hope we get to do it again!

Durham Academy Gets A Visit…

On Thursday, October 6, 2016 a woman by the name of Frances O’Roark Dowell came to my school, and talked to us about the books she has published. She talked about how she writes and when. She talked about her family. And she asked us a good about of questions like, What do you want to do when you grow up?, or, What is you your favorite book? She told us about her childhood and stuff like that. After her speech was over, we asked questions. So many questions were good, and I wish I had thought of one.

For my summer reading I choose the book, Falling In, By Frances O’Roark Dowell. I chose this book because I have heard so many good things about the book, and my dad has read it before. I enjoyed this book so much!

The only question I have for Frances is, Where did you get your dog?

~Thanks For Reading~
